(Life foal guarantee: The mare stays at the stud farm until she foals, and all running costs involved in this are for your account. If the mare aborts her foal we will cover her again for free, but the running costs involved stays for your account.)
Prescribed vet test – certificates are compulsory
DourineEVAThe certificates must accompany the mare to the stud. It can be arranged for our local vet to do the necessary test at the owners expense. This can result in your mare staying longer than anticipated with us.Transportation to and from the stud will be done by the owner.
Option 1 – The mare will be covered and can be taken home within 24 hours after her last covering.
Option 2 - she stays at the stud until she is at least 3 months pregnant (Travelling in the first three months is risky for the pregnancy)
Option 1 – Leaving the stables within 24 hours after last covering
A fee of R3500 is payable if the mare is nominated to be covered by Rubin or Rooney. These fees are not refundable if the mare proof not to be fertile after a few months. The outstanding balance is payable on collection of the mare.The mare will only be allowed to leave the stud if the account is settled in full.It is compulsory for the owner to have the mare checked for pregnancy by his/her vet within 30 days after the mare left the stud. The vet result of this check has to be given to the stud within the 30 days of the mare leaving the stud. In case she fails to fall pregnant, the owner can return the mare to the stud to be covered again at no extra covering costs, for as many times as necessary. If it proofs that the mare is infertile, the outstanding balance will be refunded.The only acceptable document for refunds is a certificate from the vet. If the vet result was not given within the 30 days after the mare left the stud there will be no further coverings and no refund if the mare is not pregnant. In case of a lost pregnancy after leaving the stud and being certified pregnant on the first vet check, there will be no refunds. The stud can take no responsibility whatsoever if the mare is not in our care.
Option 2 – Stabled at the stud until 3 months pregnant – or mares staying at the stud until foaled.
A fee of R3500 is payable if the mare is nominated to be covered by Rubin or Rooney. These fees are not refundable if the mare proof not to be fertile.In case of failure in her first cycle, the mare will be covered again every time she comes in season at no extra covering costs. The outstanding balance is payable on pregnancy certification by a vet.The mare will only be allowed to leave the stud if the account is settled in full.In case of a lost pregnancy within the first three months, whilst still at the stud, covering will be done again at no extra charge for the covering. The first pregnancy check will be done after more or less 18 days and from there on monthly until she leaves the stud. A pregnancy consultation is done by our local vet and costs about R130, these fees are for the owners account.Insurance (for owner’s account) is strongly recommended.
Stabling Fees:
1) First Option: A stabling fee of R950 per month is charged. This includes feed, Lucerne and Concentrates. Mares live out in large paddocks. This fee is payable when the mare arrives at the farm and then montly before the 5th of each month.
2) Second Option: A stabling fee of R100 per month is charged. This is for the groom. The owner bring own lucern for 4 months (that is 64 bales of 30kg each) and own concentrates for 4 months. The owner must bring the food with when the horse arrives at the farm. If the mare stays longer than 4 months, the owner must bring to the farm 16 bales (of 30 kg each) lucern for every month that the horse stays longer. This must be given at the beginning of each month.
Additional costs:
Deworming (every 6 weeks) – cost depends on what product we use
Farrier’s fee (every 6 weeks)-

If the mare has to be treated to come in season
Fertile treatment
Vet Fees : if your horse needs a vet, you will be liable for all veterinary costs.
Blanket – mares which stays for winter will need a blanket. Owner can provide a blanket or stud can purchase a blanket for the owners account.
